Kirkuk: The Turkmen parliamentary bloc on Tuesday welcomed Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaidi’s directive to adopt the unified national ID card in the upcoming elections, considering it a decisive step and a necessity to protect the integrity of the electoral process.

According to Iraqi News Agency, a statement by the bloc expressed their support for the Prime Minister’s decision. They believe that using the unified national ID card is crucial for safeguarding the will of voters and maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.

The statement highlighted concerns specific to the Kirkuk province, noting past incidents where organized operations transferred ration cards and residential registrations for families from outside the province. These actions aimed to falsely present these families as Kirkuk residents, thereby involving them in the elections and creating an artificial change in voter will, which seriously distorted the electoral process.

The bloc emphasized the importance of conducting a compre
hensive and accurate audit of the voter registry. This audit is necessary to identify individuals who transferred their ration and residential records to Kirkuk without rightful entitlement. The bloc urges taking necessary legal measures to ensure that voting rights are restricted to eligible residents of the province, in accordance with the law.
