Mosul: A representative from Nineveh Governorate has urged the Prime Minister to convene an emergency meeting to determine the reopening date for Mosul Airport. MP Amer Abdul-Jabbar emphasized that the airport is fully prepared for operation with no technical issues hindering the resumption of flights.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Abdul-Jabbar stated, “We have requested the Prime Minister to hold an emergency meeting to determine a date for the airport’s reopening, especially since it is fully prepared to receive and launch aircraft.” The airport previously facilitated flights to Baghdad and Medina before operations were halted again.

He further explained that the ongoing closure of Mosul Airport has led to significant dissatisfaction among Mosul’s residents, who are compelled to travel using Erbil Airport. Abdul-Jabbar expressed that it is unacceptable for Nineveh Governorate, Iraq’s second-largest city, to be without an operational airport despite its readiness.

Abdul-Jabbar appealed to the Prime Minister for urgent intervention to end the delays and establish a clear reopening date for Mosul Airport, which would benefit the people of the governorate and neighboring regions.

Mosul International Airport has seen extensive rehabilitation and development in recent years, including trial flights and flights to Baghdad and Medina before the suspension of air traffic.
