Baghdad: The Central Bank of Iraq has firmly denied the rumors circulating about the printing of a new Iraqi currency that would have the zeros removed. The bank clarified that any initiatives to restructure the currency or remove zeros would undergo a comprehensive process involving legal, regulatory, and technical evaluations.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Central Bank released a statement addressing various media reports that suggested the imminent introduction of a revamped Iraqi currency. The bank emphasized that these reports lack credibility and are not founded on any official confirmation. The Central Bank reiterated that any future projects concerning currency restructuring would only be pursued following a thorough decision-making process and extensive legal and technical groundwork.
The statement also assured that, should such a project be approved, the bank would communicate it through official channels and media platforms. It would ensure a well-organized transition period allowing citizens, banks, and other institutions to adapt to the new currency system, thereby safeguarding financial rights and obligations.
The Central Bank urged citizens and media entities to rely solely on its official announcements for accurate information regarding monetary policy. It warned against the spread of unverified news, which could potentially lead to public confusion or adversely affect citizens’ financial interests.
