Baghdad: The National Security Service (INSS) announced on Thursday that it had addressed 754 cyberattacks and disrupted 2,740 accounts that threatened social peace, while also thwarting an attempt to manufacture drones within Baghdad.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the official spokesperson for the National Security Service, Arshad Al-Hakim, disclosed during a press conference at the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces that the Service had successfully returned over 93 billion dinars to the state treasury. Additionally, they seized $14 million and 12 billion dinars, which were deposited with the Central Bank of Iraq during the first half of 2026.

Al-Hakim further stated that the Service arrested 40 suspects linked to, and leaders of, a faction of the banned Baath Party. They also dismantled two groups whose members were plotting to target political and security figures and keep surveillance on sensitive security sites.

The spokesperson noted the handling of 754 cyberattacks and 2,740 accounts as part of the Service’s technical and cybersecurity operations. The efforts aim to fortify the nation’s digital infrastructure against emerging threats.

Moreover, a network involved in the manipulation of land records in the Muthanna region was dismantled, resulting in the arrest of 61 suspects. The operation also uncovered over 90 forged files and transactions, alongside public fund misappropriations estimated at around two billion dinars.

In a significant security breakthrough, Al-Hakim revealed that an attempt to manufacture drones in Baghdad was successfully intercepted, highlighting the INSS’s proactive measures in countering threats to national security.
