Afyonkarahisar: The Turkish Ministry of Defense has declared that Israel’s expansionist policies pose the greatest hindrance to achieving stability in the Middle East. The Ministry highlighted Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, and Syria as significant barriers to peace.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Turkish Defense Ministry Spokesperson Zeki Aktrk stated at a press conference in Afyonkarahisar that the future of the region relies on respect for international law and state sovereignty. Aktrk emphasized the need for the international community to take effective measures against Israel’s actions, which he claims threaten both regional and global peace.

The Ministry expressed concern over Israeli attacks on Syria and reiterated its call for an immediate cessation. It also noted an ongoing review of American initiatives aimed at establishing a deconfliction mechanism in Syria but mentioned no formal requests have been received.

In relation to Syrian governance, the Ministry viewed the integration of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) into state institutions as pivotal for preserving Syria’s sovereignty and reinforcing a unified state and army.

The Ministry also addressed Turkey’s internal “Free of Terrorism” initiative, noting that a Monitoring and Evaluation Committee, chaired by the Vice President, held its inaugural meeting to discuss procedures. This initiative aims to ensure the complete dismantling of terrorist organizations and the surrender of their arms.

On Turkish-Syrian cooperation, the Ministry reaffirmed the Turkish Armed Forces’ commitment to supporting Syria’s stability and enhancing the Syrian army’s counterterrorism capabilities under an existing military cooperation agreement.

Regarding the Aegean Sea, the Ministry criticized Greece for the relocation of its Patriot air defense systems and called for adherence to the demilitarized status of the islands as per international treaties. It warned against establishing a drone base on Rhodes, citing potential violations of international law.

In response to a hijacking incident in Somali waters, the Ministry confirmed ongoing support to the Somali authorities to combat terrorism and piracy, in coordination with the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
