Baghdad: An officer and a member of the security forces were killed, and four others were injured during a campaign to remove encroachments in Al-Dora. The Ministry of Interior announced today, Thursday, the martyrdom of a brigadier general and a member of the Baghdad Karkh Police, and the injury of four other members of the Federal Police and the Baghdad Karkh Police Commandos while performing their duty.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the ministry’s senior undersecretary, Hussein al-Awadi, expressed deep sorrow and grief over the loss, stating that the martyrdom of the officers represents the highest form of sacrifice and devotion to the homeland and its citizens. The incident occurred while they were enforcing a campaign to remove illegal encroachments in the Dora area of Baghdad.
Al-Awadi extended condolences to the families and colleagues of the fallen officers, seeking divine mercy for the deceased and a speedy recovery for the injured. He further announced the formation of an urgent security and intelligence task force to investigate the circumstances of the incident, with a directive to identify, arrest, and prosecute the perpetrators.
He emphasized that the sacrifices made by the Ministry of Interior personnel would not be in vain, reiterating the ministry’s commitment to enforcing the rule of law and protecting citizens and property. The ministry vowed to continue its efforts to maintain public order and safety amidst the challenges faced during such operations.
