Kathmandu: The death toll from flash floods and mudslides that swept through the border areas between Nepal and China has risen to 469, as rescue teams continue their search for missing persons in the affected regions. The disaster struck on Wednesday, devastating communities along the border between Nepal and Tibet.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Nepalese police have reported that search operations are concentrated near the border with China. The previous toll indicated 390 deaths in Nepal and three in Tibet, with more than 1,400 people reported missing in both regions as a result of the disaster.

In a related development, Nepalese authorities have announced the rescue of hundreds of people. Dozens of injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment in Kathmandu. Among the missing are citizens from several countries, many of whom are hiking enthusiasts.

On the other side of the border, Chinese state media reported that the number of missing persons in Gyirong County, Tibet, has risen to 558, including 260 foreigners, while the death toll remains at three. It remains unclear whether some of the missing were included in both the Nepalese and Chinese statistics, potentially leading to duplicate counting.

As part of the disaster response efforts, the United Nations has announced the allocation of $2 million to provide emergency medical care.
