Baghdad: The General Directorate of Traffic has issued a call for compliance with traffic regulations to private transportation, tourism, and travel companies, as well as bus and truck owners. This appeal specifically targets vehicles transporting tourists to tourist areas and those traveling on highways.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Directorate highlighted the importance of adhering to traffic laws, including prohibiting individuals from driving without a valid driver’s license suitable for the vehicle type. Emphasizing adherence to speed limits, especially on highways, the Directorate’s statement underscored the necessity of ensuring vehicle safety and roadworthiness prior to travel. Compliance with traffic signals, following instructions from traffic officers, and avoiding vehicle overloading were also stressed.

The statement further advised drivers to refrain from using mobile phones while driving, to avoid driving when fatigued or drowsy, and to maintain a safe distance between vehicles. Caution was urged when overtaking and changing lanes, and the importance of ensuring the safety of tires, lights, and all vehicle safety equipment was emphasized. Additionally, the Directorate encouraged drivers to treat tourists and passengers with respect and ensure their safety throughout the journey.

The Directorate also addressed emergency protocols, advising drivers to call 911 or visit the nearest traffic police station in case of any medical condition affecting a traveler. The overarching message from the General Directorate of Traffic was clear: “Adherence to traffic laws and regulations is a shared responsibility and contributes to preserving lives and property and reducing traffic accidents.”
