Baghdad: Iraq is intensifying its efforts in the ongoing war against corruption and drugs, as stated by Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi. The Prime Minister reiterated that there will be no leniency or retreat in this critical battle.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Prime Minister al-Zaidi made a field visit to the General Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Affairs under the Ministry of Interior. The visit was aimed at reviewing the progress and efforts in combating narcotics and psychotropic substances. During his visit, al-Zaidi toured the Directorate’s permanent exhibition, which highlights various types of drugs, smuggling routes, and methods of use. The exhibition also honors the martyrs of the Directorate who lost their lives fighting drug traffickers in recent years. Al-Zaidi paid tribute to them by reciting Surah Al-Fatihah in remembrance of their sacrifices for the security of society and citizens.

In a meeting with the senior staff of the Directorate, attended by the Director of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, al-Zaidi received a detailed briefing on the work, results achieved, and challenges in anti-drug efforts. He emphasized Iraq’s unwavering commitment to the war against corruption and drugs, describing it as a battle of honor and a crucial defense of Iraq’s future and its generations to come.

Al-Zaidi noted significant progress in the war on drugs, highlighting Iraq’s leadership among regional countries in preventing drug smuggling and use as a transit route. He stated the ultimate goal is a completely drug-free Iraq. The Prime Minister praised the Directorate’s staff for their dedication and urged them to continue their efforts in developing their work.

He instructed the Directorate to focus on addressing the situations of drug users while ensuring the provision of necessary resources and capabilities for their duties. Additionally, al-Zaidi directed the formation of a committee comprising relevant authorities to monitor the drug issue and submit a monthly report on progress, including documentation of drug seizures and destruction operations.
