Baquba: The head of the Diyala Provincial Council, Omar al-Karawi, has emphasized that there is no room for sectarian or racist sentiments within the region, affirming that every Iraqi citizen has the right to reside in Baquba or Khanaqin.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Karawi highlighted the importance of adhering to the constitution and the law in matters of peaceful coexistence and residency rights in Khanaqin. He stressed that ethnic or sectarian considerations should not hinder any Iraqi citizen’s right to live in any part of the province.

Al-Karawi further clarified in a press release that Khanaqin is an essential part of Diyala’s geographical landscape. He stated that all provincial components should have the right to reside there and hold government positions, in line with legal and federal directives rather than personal or political agendas.

He assured that the Provincial Council is prepared to legally and constitutionally counter any efforts to stir racial or sectarian discord, emphasizing that Diyala is home to all its citizens, including Arabs, Kurds, Turkmen, and various other groups.
