Baghdad: Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein discussed the latest developments in the Iranian-Omani talks and efforts to reduce tensions in a phone call with his Omani counterpart, Badr Al-Busaidi, on Friday.

According to Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Ministry indicated that “Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein discussed, during a phone call with the Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman, Badr Al-Busaidi, the latest regional developments and the results of the talks held between the Omani and Iranian delegations in Tehran.”

The statement explained that Hussein listened to an explanation of the results of the Omani-Iranian talks, particularly regarding understandings on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

“The two Ministers also discussed the outstanding issues between the United States and Iran and addressed the proposed US sanctions that would restrict economic and financial transactions with Iran and their potential repercussions on the regional situation,” the statement added.

“Both sides emphasized the importance of holding emergency meetings of the concerned countries to discuss ways to address the serious developments and mitigate their repercussions, as well as the necessity of continued cooperation and coordination between Baghdad and Muscat, working on joint initiatives in this regard, and inviting other countries to participate,” according to the statement.

“The two sides agreed to continue communication and coordination to contribute to developing joint ideas and plans and to support efforts aimed at containing tensions and enhancing stability in the region,” the statement concluded.
