Doha: The Iranian and Argentinian national teams have secured their spots in the semifinals of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s U17 World Championship (Doha 2026) following decisive victories in the quarterfinals. Iran triumphed over Pakistan in a thrilling five-set match, while Argentina overpowered Poland in straight sets.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Iran clinched its semifinal position with a marathon victory against Pakistan at the Aspire Zone Women’s Sports Hall. The Iranian team initially took the lead by winning the first set 25-23. Despite Pakistan’s comeback, winning the subsequent two sets 25-20 and 25-17, Iran regained momentum and dominated the fourth set 25-11. The final set was a nail-biter, with Iran edging out Pakistan 16-14, thus securing their place in the semifinals.
Throughout the tournament, Iran has been a formidable force, remaining undefeated and topping Group E with 9 points from three consecutive wins. Their path to the semifinals included a commanding 3-0 victory over Pakistan in earlier rounds and another 3-0 win against Chinese Taipei in the Round of 16.
On the other hand, Argentina continued its impressive tournament run by defeating Poland 3-0, thus advancing to the semifinals. Argentina’s victory was marked by strong performances in all three sets, with scores of 25-18, 25-22, and 25-20, solidifying their position as a formidable contender.
Argentina’s journey to the semifinals has been noteworthy, having eliminated Italy, the defending champions, with a 3-1 win in the Round of 16 before their quarterfinal triumph over Poland. The upcoming semifinal clash between Argentina and Iran is set to be an exciting encounter between two teams that have shown exceptional form throughout the tournament.
The Iran-Argentina match is scheduled for this evening at the Aspire Women’s Hall, followed by the second semifinal between France and Brazil at the same venue, concluding the semifinal stage of the championship.
