Baghdad: The Legal Affairs Department, Planning and Follow-up Division, at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, in line with the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Strategy, organized an informative workshop for ministry employees titled “Promoting a Culture of Reporting Corruption within Institutions.” The event took place in the Studies Department hall and saw participation from key ministry figures, including the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Sports Affairs, Hassan Ali Karim.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Undersecretary Karim, who also leads the Integrity Strategy team, conducted the workshop, highlighting the significance of the subject and the necessity to enhance the culture of reporting corruption among the staff. He said that this effort is part of the team’s initiative to amplify awareness activities related to corruption within the ministry. Karim stressed that the persistent negative publicity surrounding corruption cases needs to be countered with proactive strategies that reflect the ministry’s dedication to safeguarding public funds and combating financial wastage. He also discussed various approaches for implementing security awareness, such as collaborating with the Integrity Commission to organize workshops and educational courses aimed at protecting employees.

Subsequently, Ahmed Fadel from the Integrity Commission took the floor to deliver a lecture on several critical topics, including the code of conduct for public officials, financial disclosure, reporting violations, and misappropriation of public funds. He elaborated on corruption cases within institutions, effective methods for uncovering them, and the process of reporting such incidents to the appropriate authorities. Fadel provided numerous real-world examples of detected corruption incidents and addressed multiple legal aspects designed to protect employees from any adverse consequences when reporting violations.
