Baghdad: The Higher Steering Committee for the One Million Residential Land Plots Project at the Office of the Prime Minister announced that executive work will begin in the coming days in the provinces that have completed preparations for the land. The Prime Minister’s Media Office said in a statement received by Iraqi News Agency-INA that ‘In implementation of the directives of Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi concerning the One Million Serviced Residential Land Plots Initiative, pursuant to Council of Ministers Resolution No. 332, issued on June 30, 2026, the competent committees, following exceptional efforts, have prepared 216,000 residential land plots across six governorates for the immediate commencement of real estate development works and the provision of infrastructure services for these plots. Work is continuing, with significant efforts underway to complete preparation of the remaining land plots’.

According to Iraqi News Agency, several specialized committees were formed within the Prime Minister’s Office and the governorates to establish the legal, technical, and economic foundations of the initiative and develop a clear roadmap for its implementation, particularly as several previous initiatives had been launched but did not succeed due to certain difficulties and challenges. The statement continued, “To ensure the sustainability of the project, innovative economic models were developed to finance the implementation of the initiative. As an initial outcome of these models, Council of Ministers resolutions were issued during the Council’s session held yesterday, in coordination and effective cooperation with several Iraqi businesspeople and investors who expressed strong readiness to share responsibility with the government for implementing the initiative, whether through donations or by contributing to the implementation of infrastructure projects for these land plots”.

Implementation works will commence in the governorates that have completed the preparation of the land plots within the next few days. An integrated digital platform will also be launched next month, October, to receive applications from citizens within the target groups, the statement affirmed.

The government affirms its unwavering commitment to implementing this initiative across all governorates of Iraq, eliminating informal housing, which is incompatible with the dignity of Iraqi citizens, and working to overcome all difficulties and obstacles in accordance with its strategic vision for addressing the housing crisis, particularly for poor and disadvantaged groups, and in line with its government programme. The government reiterates its determination to make this pioneering initiative a solid foundation for further initiatives that serve the Iraqi people and contribute to ensuring a dignified life for them.
