Baghdad: The Independent High Electoral Commission announced two significant decisions by the Board of Commissioners, involving the replacement of a candidate in the House of Representatives and the approval of new members joining several political parties.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the commission issued a statement detailing the outcomes of the Board of Commissioners’ session held on September 1, 2026. The session focused on a memorandum from the Office of the Head of the Electoral Administration, which recommended selecting a replacement for MP Ashwaq Najm al-Din Abbas Muhammad al-Jaf, who was elected to the House of Representatives for the sixth parliamentary session in 2025.

The commission’s decision appointed Nana Zaka T Hussein Hama Saeed Mohammed as the replacement candidate for the Kurdistan Democratic Party in the Sulaymaniyah Governorate. Mohammed, who secured 268 votes, will replace al-Jaf. The Board of Commissioners has authorized the Chairman to inform the Iraqi Parliament’s Parliamentary Affairs Department about this development.

Additionally, the Board of Commissioners ratified a decision by the Department of Political Parties and Organizations Affairs to add new members to various political parties. The names of the new members are listed in the department’s memorandum, which will guide the necessary implementation measures. The commission emphasized that both resolutions were unanimously agreed upon and will be made available on the commission’s official website.
