Baghdad: President Nizar Amidi affirmed on Friday that the Baghdad International Book Fair represents an extension of the capital’s cultural and civilizational heritage, as it is a capital of science, culture, and thought. Amidi visited the 27th edition of the fair, accompanied by the Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities, Sarwa Abdul Wahid, to explore the latest publications and releases from Iraqi, Arab, and international publishing houses. The event showcased a variety of titles and works in various intellectual and academic fields.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the President emphasized that the fair is key to reclaiming Baghdad’s position as a beacon of science and knowledge. Highlighting the importance of books in Iraq’s cultural resurgence, Amidi stated, “Iraq’s renaissance begins with building its people, and one of the tools for this is the book.”

The President further noted the significance of book fairs as platforms for intellectual exchange, reflecting nations’ progress and facilitating freedom of opinion and expression. He praised the efforts behind the fair’s success, emphasizing its role in reinvigorating the book’s place in society and shaping the future.
