Baghdad: Minister of Trade Mustafa Nizar Al-Ani and Syrian Minister of Economy and Industry Mohammed Nidal Al-Shaar discussed ways to increase the volume of bilateral trade and expand Iraqi exports to the Syrian market.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the ministry’s media office stated that, on the sidelines of the 118th regular session of the Economic and Social Council of the League of Arab States, Al-Ani met with Al-Shaar to explore methods for developing and strengthening economic and trade relations between the two countries.

The meeting focused on increasing trade volume between Iraq and Syria and expanding economic cooperation. The discussion particularly highlighted enhancing Iraqi exports to the Syrian market, with a focus on products such as Iraqi cement and asphalt. This initiative aims to foster bilateral trade development and create new opportunities for the private sectors of both nations.

Both parties emphasized the significance of bolstering economic and trade cooperation and overcoming barriers that hinder bilateral trade. They highlighted the need to create greater opportunities to increase trade and leverage the available potential and opportunities in both countries.

The ministry remarked that this meeting aligns with Iraq’s broader efforts to expand trade relations with Arab countries, increase the presence of Iraqi products in Arab markets, and open new markets for national exports.
