Basra: The Mustafa Jamal Al-Din Literary Association in Basra recently hosted a lecture focusing on the complex relationship between media influence and professional responsibility. The event, titled “The Media and its Role in Society between Influence and Professionalism,” featured media figure Haider Al-Saad and was attended by Basra writers, intellectuals, and media professionals.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the session was opened by the association’s head, poet Muhammad Mustafa Jamal al-Din, who highlighted the evolving role of media from merely conveying news to shaping public awareness and opinion. He emphasized that professionalism, objectivity, accuracy, and respect for the audience’s intellect are crucial in maintaining media credibility. Al-Din noted that the strength of a media message and its role in fostering a more informed and cohesive society depend on its influence and adherence to ethical standards.

The event included an audio recording of Mr. Jamal al-Din and an excerpt from his poem “Yaqzan” (Awake). Journalist Osama Majid moderated the session, introducing speaker Haider Al-Saad, who discussed the media’s societal role and its powerful influence on public opinion. Al-Saad underscored the necessity of maintaining professional standards in media, particularly amidst rapid developments in Iraq’s media landscape.

The session featured lively discussions and interventions from attendees, many of whom are involved in media, journalism, and literary fields. Participants shared their insights and posed questions, enhancing the lecture’s depth. At the session’s conclusion, the association presented Haider Al-Saad with a certificate of appreciation for his valuable contribution, awarded by the association’s president, poet Mohammed Mustafa Jamal Al-Din.
