Baghdad: The Investment Authority is actively engaging in discussions regarding the initial phase of the climate investment plan, collaborating closely with the Planning and Environment Authority.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Chairman of the National Investment Commission, Adel Al-Yassiri, led the Steering Committee for the Climate Investment Plan meeting on Sunday. The meeting aimed to address the implementation requirements for the plan’s first phase. During the meeting, Al-Yassiri evaluated the advancements made in meeting the necessary prerequisites for starting the projects outlined in the Climate Investment Plan’s framework document. Important attendees included Maher Hammad Johaan, the Technical Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning, Ammar Jaber Al-Ata, the Technical Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, and various representatives from pertinent agencies and sectors.

The Commission’s Media and Public Relations Department released a press statement highlighting that the meeting focused on establishing suitable conditions to advance the projects within the plan. These projects are crucial to Iraq’s sustainable investment efforts and play a significant role in mitigating climate change impacts. The meeting underscored the significance of the nominated projects by the Authority and sectoral bodies, emphasizing their potential to reduce emissions, enhance sustainability, and support national climate change initiatives.

The Climate Investment Plan is a collaborative effort between the National Investment Commission, the Ministries of Environment and Planning, and several other government agencies. A selection of projects suitable for the plan has been identified, setting the stage for preparing their implementation requirements and fostering investment opportunities. The meeting also stressed the importance of continuing to develop the plan’s subsequent phases, aligning with Iraq’s updated National Contributions document. This effort reinforces Iraq’s commitment to its international climate change pledges, particularly the Paris Climate Agreement.
