Basra: The head of the interim administrative committee of Al-Minaa Club, Basra Governor Asaad Al-Eidani, revealed ongoing negotiations with renowned coach Sergio Batista to lead the club’s efforts in the Iraqi Stars League. However, these talks are contingent upon the condition that current coach Hussein Abdul Wahid retains his position with the team.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Eidani, alongside several committee members, engaged in discussions with the team’s coach and players to explore support mechanisms for Al-Minaa Club, addressing challenges hindering its progress in the league. Al-Eidani assured that the local government is committed to fully supporting the club, including the prompt payment of players’ dues within the next two days.

The governor emphasized the importance of overcoming previous obstacles and concentrating on the team’s future success, ensuring that all needs are met comprehensively. Al-Minaa recently faced a setback with a 3-0 loss to Al-Naft at Al-Fayhaa Stadium in
Basra, where all goals were conceded in the first half.

The club is grappling with administrative challenges and a financial crisis, leading to a boycott of training sessions by several players due to unpaid dues after a match in Erbil. These issues have notably affected the team’s on-field performance, prompting urgent measures to stabilize and strengthen the club’s situation.
