Baiji: The Federal Integrity Commission announced on Sunday the arrest of an official in the Baiji Municipality Directorate in Salah al-Din Governorate, apprehended while accepting a bribe from a citizen in exchange for overlooking his official responsibilities.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Commission acted on a complaint from a citizen who reported being coerced by the head of the Urban Planning Department in the Baiji Municipality Directorate. The official allegedly demanded money in exchange for issuing a letter to the First Sub-Committee for Compensation of Victims in the governorate.

The Commission detailed that a team from the Salah al-Din Investigation Office was tasked with investigating the complaint. After securing a judicial warrant, they orchestrated a sting operation that led to the arrest of the suspect during the bribe exchange with the complainant. The bribe money was confiscated from his possession.

The Commission reported that a formal seizure report was compiled for the operation. The report, along with the accused and the seized items, was submitted to the judge of the Salah al-Din Investigation Court, which handles integrity cases. Consequently, the judge ordered the detention of the accused under the provisions of Resolution (160 of 1983).
