Baghdad: The General Authority for Antiquities and Heritage has announced the imminent return of the Italian archaeological mission to the Nimrud site in Nineveh Governorate. This development follows an extensive meeting between Ali Obeid Shalgham, head of the General Authority, and the Italian team from the University of Denia, led by Professor Daniele Morandi.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting also included the Director of the Investigations Department, Haider Mahdi, and the head of the Foreign Missions Division. Discussions focused on resuming survey work using internationally recognized methods, including geophysical and geomagnetic surveys.

Shalgham emphasized the significance of collaboration with foreign missions, noting that the introduction of internationally accredited technologies and equipment will enhance the expertise of local archaeological personnel and open new scientific avenues for exploration.
