Justice Minister and National Security Chief Discuss Strategies for Enhancing Prison Security


Baghdad: Justice Minister Khalid Shawani met today with the head of the National Security Service, Basim al-Badri, to discuss strengthening cooperation and coordination regarding prison protection, particularly concerning the protection and security of correctional facilities. The discussions focused on enhancing security measures to maintain the safety of prisons, inmates, and staff.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry indicated that during the meeting, which was also attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry, the Director General of the Juvenile Reform Department, the Assistant Director General of Security Affairs, and the Director of the Security Intelligence Center within the Iraqi Correctional Service, the Justice Minister discussed several issues of mutual interest. These included ways to improve security coordination and the exchange of security information with the Security Intelligence Center, thereby contributing to increased preparedness and enhanced preventative measures within correctional facilities.



The Minister emphasized the importance of continued cooperation and coordination between the two sides on this vital and sensitive matter, noting that protecting correctional facilities is a cornerstone of the security system, given its direct impact on protecting society and promoting security and stability.



For his part, the head of the National Security Agency praised the efforts exerted by the Ministry of Justice in developing correctional institutions and preventive measures, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to continuing cooperation and joint coordination with the ministry in the public interest.
