Baghdad: The third day of the 50th Middle East Energy Exhibition highlighted the strategic importance of innovation, human capital, and partnerships in transforming the energy sector. New partnerships and projects were unveiled, alongside advanced solutions in storage, grids, and digital energy.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a significant agreement was signed between UAE-based Union Iron and Steel (UIS) and Yellow Door Energy to develop a 1.9 MWp solar power plant at UIS’s manufacturing facility within the Kizad complex in Abu Dhabi. This initiative involves installing approximately 3,000 solar panels across 15,000 square meters of rooftop space. Once operational, the plant is expected to produce around 3 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually, reducing carbon emissions by over 930,000 kilograms each year.

The construction of the solar power plant is set to commence in the fourth quarter of 2026, with completion anticipated by the summer of 2027. This project exemplifies the increasing shift towards renewable energy sources in the region.

The exhibition also showcased the Technical Excellence Forum’s session, “Generation Grid: The Engineers Who Will Decide the Success or Failure of the Energy Sector’s Transformation,” which featured young engineers and was moderated by Aisha Al Naqbi from the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure’s Youth Council.

Furthermore, the Global Innovation Hub presented cutting-edge technologies in smart grids, energy storage, hydrogen, and digital energy solutions, including an innovation challenge with four finalists. In a significant development for the energy storage sector, Trina Storage launched its Elementa + Electra solution-a utility-scale energy storage system-marking its debut in the Middle East.
