Baghdad: Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi affirmed the government’s commitment to developing the tax and customs systems through automating procedures and modernizing operational mechanisms.

According to Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister’s Media Office issued a press release confirming that Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi hosted a delegation from the Ishraqat Kanoun Party, including its political bureau and parliamentary bloc, led by Secretary-General Yasser Majeed Al Nasrallah. The meeting highlighted the legislative and oversight role of the Council of Representatives in supporting government functions and the need to expedite several draft laws, notably the draft law for the Internal Oversight Authority.

The statement from the Prime Minister’s office underscored the government’s initiatives aimed at addressing service and economic challenges, particularly in housing, electricity, and the development of economic cities. These initiatives aim to improve service levels, support development, and create job opportunities.

Al-Zaidi further detailed the government’s commitment to modernizing the tax and customs systems by automating procedures, modernizing operational mechanisms, and implementing a prepayment mechanism starting next October. These measures are expected to enhance financial management efficiency and increase non-oil revenues.

The Ishraqat Kanoun delegation expressed their support for the Prime Minister’s anti-corruption efforts and the government’s focus on strengthening Iraq’s sovereignty. They emphasized the importance of preventive measures and improving institutional performance while expressing readiness to adopt the draft internal oversight law and enhance cooperation with oversight bodies.
