Baghdad Municipality Launches Investigation into Al-Zawraa Lake Drowning Incident


Baghdad: The Baghdad Municipality, under the direction of Mayor Ammar Musa Kadhim, has initiated an investigative committee to explore the circumstances surrounding a tragic drowning incident at Al-Zawraa Lake.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the incident occurred when an individual bypassed the security fence and barriers surrounding the lake, which is not designated for swimming or any other water-related activities. The Baghdad Municipality emphasized in a press release that the committee’s purpose is to determine the causes, identify responsibilities, and enforce legal measures against any negligent parties, ensuring they face maximum penalties based on the findings.

Additionally, the municipality confirmed that specialized security personnel promptly initiated rescue and assistance procedures following the incident. They reiterated a call for citizens and visitors to adhere to safety measures, including fences, barriers, and warning signs, and to avoid restricted areas for their own safety.

The municipality promised to handle the situation with seriousness and transparency. The tragic event involved the drowning of a young girl and her parents, who were trying to rescue her, at Al-Zawraa Park’s lake last Monday evening.
