Baghdad: The Federal Integrity Commission announced the issuance of a seven-year prison sentence against the Director General of the Central Electricity Distribution Company in the Ministry of Electricity for the crime of illicit enrichment, and obligated him to return 25.7 billion dinars, representing the value of the illicit gains and an equivalent fine.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Commission indicated in a statement that the Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Court issued the seven-year prison sentence against the convicted individual, Alaa Samir Rashid, Director General of the Central Electricity Distribution Company in the Ministry of Electricity. Based on the provisions of Article (19/Second) of the Integrity and Illicit Enrichment Commission Law No. (30 of 2011), as amended, the court decided to obligate the convicted individual to return the value of the illicit gains, amounting to 5,524,135,000 Iraqi dinars and 5,538,593 US dollars, in addition to imposing a financial penalty on him equivalent to the value of the illicit gains, in accordance with the provisions of Article (19/Fourth) of the Commission’s Law.

The Commission added that the ruling included upholding the seizure of the convicted individual’s movable and immovable assets, while granting the Federal Integrity Commission the right to claim compensation for damages after the ruling becomes final.
