Baghdad: Head of the Reconstruction and Development Coalition, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, met today at his office with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Iraq, Daniel Kriener, to discuss bilateral relations and ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sudani expressed his appreciation for Germany’s supportive role in Iraq’s stability and development. He emphasized that the relations between Baghdad and Berlin are grounded in mutual respect and trust, highlighting Germany as a reliable partner with valuable expertise that Iraq can leverage.

Al-Sudani welcomed the positive outcomes of Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi’s recent visit to Germany, considering it a significant gain for Iraq that strengthens its European relations. He stressed the importance of continuity and institutional consistency in foreign relations.

Further, Al-Sudani highlighted the achievements of his own 2023 visit to Berlin, particularly the invitation extended to German companies to engage in the “Development Road” project and their involvement in vital projects leveraging their expertise.

The discussion also covered the regulation of weapons in compliance with the law, which Al-Sudani described as a national necessity to uphold Iraq’s sovereignty and independent decision-making, ensuring that its territory is not used for launching attacks against neighboring countries.

On his part, the German Ambassador expressed the interest of German companies in entering the Iraqi market, noting that ten projects had been submitted to the Prime Minister’s Office. He emphasized the importance of continued cooperation in reconstruction, development, and economic fields.
