Baghdad: The head of the Reconstruction and Development Coalition, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, met with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Iraq, Daniel Krieber, to discuss bilateral relations and explore ways to enhance cooperation between Sudan and Germany.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from al-Sudani’s office highlighted his appreciation for Germany’s supportive role in Iraq’s stability and development. Al-Sudani emphasized that the relationship between Baghdad and Berlin is founded on respect and trust, viewing Germany as a reliable partner with valuable expertise that Iraq aims to leverage.

Al-Sudani welcomed the outcomes of Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zubaidi’s visit to Germany, describing it as beneficial for Iraq and its European relations. He underscored the necessity for successful foreign relations to be built on accumulation and institutional continuity.

Al-Sudani further stressed the importance of building on the successes of his 2023 visit to Berlin. He highlighted the invitation for German companies to participate in the Development Road project, emphasizing the potential benefits from their expertise in critical projects.

The meeting also touched upon the regulation of weapons according to the law, with al-Sudani stressing this as a national necessity. He reiterated the need to respect Iraq’s sovereignty and national decision-making, urging against using Iraqi territory for attacks on neighboring countries.

The German ambassador expressed the interest of German companies in entering the Iraqi market, mentioning that 10 projects had been submitted to the Prime Minister’s office. He highlighted the importance of ongoing cooperation in reconstruction, development, and economic sectors.
