Basra Governor Engages Spanish Ambassador on Key Railway Initiatives


Basra: The Governor of Basra, Asaad Al-Eidani, engaged in a pivotal discussion with the Spanish Ambassador to Iraq, Alicia Rico P©rez del Pulgar, focusing on critical transportation and railway projects within the province. This significant meeting was attended by his administrative deputy, Maher Al-Amiri, and Redha Al-Hashemi, the director of the Southern Region Railways.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the discussions highlighted the proposed railway link project between Iraq and Iran, including the Basra-Shalamcheh railway project, which spans approximately 40 kilometers. The governor and the ambassador also explored advancements in public transportation and internal train projects aimed at improving the governorate’s infrastructure.



The Spanish ambassador expressed the readiness of Spanish companies to undertake essential projects in Basra Governorate. The meeting underscored the importance of advancing the transportation and railway network in Basra, a move anticipated to enhance infrastructure, boost mobility, and mitigate traffic congestion in the region.
