Al-Awadi Emphasizes Unified Support from Tribal Sheikhs for State Control Over Arms

Baghdad: Senior Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, Hussein Al-Awadi, emphasized on Saturday the importance of unifying the positions of tribal sheikhs regarding support for the state, consolidating arms under state control, confronting the practice of dakkat al-asha’ir (tribal intimidation shootings), and preventing conflicts.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry announced that Al-Awadi inaugurated the new headquarters of the Tribal Affairs Directorate. The event was attended by the Prime Minister’s representative, ministry undersecretaries, various commanders and officers, tribal sheikhs, and prominent Iraqi figures.

Al-Awadi underscored the importance of “unifying the positions of tribal sheikhs in supporting the state and consolidating arms under its control, as well as confronting dakkat al-asha’ir and preventing conflicts.” He stressed the need to “issue a unified resolution protecting anyone who rushes to aid a citizen or transport them to the hospital from facing any form of tribal retribution.”
