US Vice President Links Improved Iran Relations to Behavioral Changes

Tehran:Vance: US Vice President JD Vance has stated that any significant improvement in relations with Tehran depends on Iran showing a concrete change in its behavior toward the United States.

According to the National Iraqi News Agency, Vance emphasized the necessity for Iran to alter its approach, saying, “If the Iranians change how they deal with the United States, an opportunity for much better relations will emerge. However, we must see a tangible change in their behavior.”

This remark follows Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s announcement of a proposed seven-day plan to open the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for lifting the naval blockade and restrictions on oil exports. President Donald Trump rejected this offer, but Araghchi noted that Iran is still waiting for a final response from mediators.

Iran faces increasing economic challenges due to war, sanctions, and restrictions on oil exports, which have made transferring funds difficult and foreign currency reserves scarce. These issues have led to higher costs for imports, medicines, and raw materials, worsening inflationary pressures.

On Tuesday, the US dollar exchange rate on Iran’s free market exceeded 2.53 million rials, marking a new record high, according to data from the TGJU (Gold and Currency Information Network affiliated with the Tehran Gold and Currency Union). This increase followed a series of steep rises, with the dollar at 2.332 million rials on September 22, climbing to 2.448 million on the 28th, and reaching around 2.45 million on Monday before surpassing the 2.5 million mark the next day. Consequently, the dollar’s value increased by approximately 7.5% between September 22 and 28.
