Baghdad:According to the National Iraqi News Agency, the Italian Ministry of Defense has announced the completion of its troop withdrawal from Iraq. This marks the end of Italy’s military presence in the country, as the last soldiers involved in the recovery and transport of logistical materials have returned home.
The Ministry stated that the Italian armed forces had served in Iraq for several years, executing their duties with competence and responsibility. The withdrawal is part of an agreement with Iraqi authorities, completed ahead of a September 30 deadline, and involves the Italian troops leaving the country alongside other nations within the International Coalition.
Despite the military withdrawal, Italy plans to continue its relationship with Iraq through cooperation, training, and expertise exchange, focusing on developing the capabilities of the Iraqi armed forces. The Ministry emphasized that this shift signifies a new phase in the partnership between the two nations.
