Iraqi Embassy in Cairo Celebrates Sovereignty Day


Cairo:The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Egypt hosted a celebration to mark Sovereignty Day, attended by a diverse group of officials, diplomats, and artists.



According to the Iraqi News Agency, the event saw the participation of notable personalities including the Iraqi Minister of Environment Sarwa Abdul-Wahid, Egyptian Minister of Endowments Osama Al-Azhari, and Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy. Also present were former ministers, Assistant Foreign Minister Ambassador Ihab Fahmy, and various Arab and foreign ambassadors accredited to Cairo, along with media professionals and artists from both Iraq and Egypt.



Iraq’s Ambassador to Egypt, Qahtan Taha Khalaf, highlighted in his speech that Sovereignty Day is the result of a gradual process aimed at enhancing national sovereignty and expanding international partnerships. He emphasized that this day signifies a new phase for Iraq, focusing on independent decision-making and strengthening international relations based on mutual respect.



The Ambassador also praised the historical relations between Iraq and Egypt, emphasizing their cooperation across various fields. He underscored that the celebration reflects Iraq’s determination to maintain its security and independence while playing an active role at the regional and international levels.



Egypt’s Minister of Endowments, Osama Al-Azhari, congratulated Iraq, noting the enduring significance of Sovereignty Day for all Arabs due to its implications for state sovereignty and independent governance. He stressed that the day marks a beginning for Iraq’s development and prosperity.



The event featured documentary screenings on the milestones leading to Sovereignty Day and included artistic performances by Iraqi musicians such as Hummam Ibrahim and Muhannad Al-Marsoumi. The celebration concluded with an atmosphere of camaraderie, highlighting the close ties between Iraq and Egypt.
