Iraq Development Council Unveils National Reform Initiative

Baghdad:The Iraq Development Council has announced the launch of the Comprehensive National Reform Initiative, which aims to implement reform tracks across various sectors of the state and society.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Aqeel Al-Khazali, head of the Iraqi Development Council, emphasized the significance of the initiative, describing “Sovereignty Day” as a historic milestone in Iraq’s history. He highlighted the occasion as a turning point, with the initiative contributing to the path of comprehensive sovereignty in all aspects of life.

Al-Khazali further elaborated on the broad concept of sovereignty and the council’s role in the national campaign, which includes both government and elite-led efforts. The initiative follows a detailed study of Iraq’s situation, targeting political, economic, cultural, intellectual, educational, and environmental reforms. It aims to integrate both internal and external dimensions of sovereignty.

The initiative will commence with a national dialogue lasting one month, after which the findings will be presented to the Iraqi state’s decision-making authority. This will initiate a dialogue process lasting a year and a half, intended to culminate in the “Iraq Covenant.” This covenant is envisioned as the state’s second founding pact, addressing potential shortcomings in the political process.
