Najaf:The Iraqi government has announced the resumption of flights operated by Iranian airlines to and from Najaf International Airport, with up to 40 flights permitted daily, excluding Mahan Air.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, this initiative is part of the government’s efforts to facilitate the movement of passengers and visitors arriving in or departing from Iraq, focusing on humanitarian, medical, tourism, and educational needs.
Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi has been actively involved in discussions to resume these flights, which culminated in an agreement allowing Iranian airlines to operate 40 flights per day, with Mahan Air not included. The Prime Minister acknowledged the positive response from the U.S. government, which granted the necessary exemption to facilitate this arrangement, aiding passengers traveling for medical treatment, religious visits, and tourism.
Al-Zaidi emphasized that the renewal of air traffic between Iraq and Iran is more than transportation; it serves as a bridge connecting peoples. The flights support patients seeking medical care, religious visitors to holy sites, and families reuniting, while also enhancing tourism, the economy, and social ties.
The Prime Minister reiterated that Iraq’s foreign relations are steered by the interests of its people and a commitment to balanced and positive international relations. These relations are used to facilitate communication among peoples and improve lives. He assured that the government will continue to address transportation issues, working with all relevant parties to eliminate obstacles in a way that benefits Iraq, safeguards passenger interests, and strengthens humanitarian cooperation and people-to-people connections.
