Iraq Seeks Full Sovereignty by Ending Foreign Military Presence

Baghdad:Iraq is moving toward full national sovereignty, aiming to end the presence of all foreign military forces in the country, according to Sheikh Humam Hamoudi, leader of the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council.

According to the National Iraqi News Agency, Hamoudi stated that the withdrawal of U.S. forces was based on an Iraqi decision. He emphasized ongoing efforts to terminate the military presence of other foreign forces, including Turkish troops and NATO forces.

Hamoudi advocated for a stronger deployment of Iraqi forces along the country’s borders, protection of Iraqi airspace, and further development of national defense capabilities. He underscored that Iraq’s sovereignty is indivisible and can only be attained when the state has full control over its security and military decisions, with all weapons placed under state control in accordance with the constitution.

He also mentioned that resistance factions would be integrated into state institutions and legal frameworks. Furthermore, Iraq should pursue balanced foreign relations that safeguard its national interests and maintain independent decision-making.
