Jakarta:West Qurna 1 The Ministry of Oil announced that the West Qurna 1 Operations Centre project has reached 54% completion as work continues on the first phase of this significant development.
According to Iraqi News Agency, Aras Mohammed Ali, Deputy Head of the Major Projects Division at West Qurna 1 Field Operations, stated that the project is aimed at strengthening infrastructure, improving the working environment, and enhancing the efficiency of oil operations. The first phase includes constructing two buildings with a combined capacity for approximately 560 people, a cafeteria for 400, multipurpose halls, medical services, schools, and other amenities.
The project, consisting of two phases, aims to centralize personnel within the field to facilitate communication, accelerate work, and reduce operating costs. It is expected to be completed by September 2027, with work progressing according to established plans.
Ali also mentioned ongoing studies for awarding several strategic projects, including water projects and a 200-megawatt power station to meet the field’s electricity needs. The division is adopting small-scale solar energy projects to support electricity supplies, having completed the fifth solar power station and moving towards the sixth.
The Major Projects Department is divided into the Executive Planning Division, which handles project studies, designs, and progress monitoring, and the Project Management Division, which oversees construction and implementation. These initiatives are part of the development plans for West Qurna 1 Field, focusing on modernizing infrastructure and sustaining future oil operations.
