Istanbul:Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has criticized the current global system under the United Nations, claiming that it unfairly allows the decisions of five nations with veto power to dominate over the will of more than 190 countries.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Erdogan delivered his remarks during the International Justice Summit in Istanbul on Friday. He argued that the existing international system lacks legitimacy and credibility, weakening its effectiveness in achieving peace and security.
Erdogan lamented that the system is irreparable and highlighted the erosion of international law and the inefficacy of international agreements and court rulings. He stressed the importance of the United Nations Charter’s Article 1, which emphasizes the maintenance of international peace and security, as a fundamental principle.
The Turkish President condemned what he described as an “arrogant genocide network” and criticized the situation in Gaza, labeling it the world’s largest concentration camp. He noted growing disparities in areas such as education, technology, climate change, and wealth distribution, questioning the fairness of a system that benefits a small elite.
Erdogan also highlighted structural flaws in various sectors, including energy security, trade, and infrastructure, and expressed disappointment over unresolved issues, such as the disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial oil transport route. Despite these challenges, he affirmed Turkey’s commitment to supporting those facing injustice and shouldering responsibilities when necessary.
