Parliamentary Committee Urges Establishment of Food and Drug Commission

Accra:The Parliamentary Committee on Economy and Trade has advocated for the creation of a Food and Drug Commission to bolster the government’s recent economic measures. Hamid Al-Mousawi, a member of the committee, emphasized the need for legislation to prevent monopolies and control the prices of food, medicines, and other commodities.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Al-Mousawi highlighted the importance of regulating dollar demand and price control through a specialized institution. A draft law for the commission already exists and has undergone its first reading in Parliament. He urged the government to establish this authority and grant it broad powers to support economic decisions and ensure smooth operations in Iraq.

He further noted that the institution could help identify areas within the draft law that may require amendments, based on government proposals, to combat those exploiting dollar exchange rate fluctuations.
