Erbil:Kurdistan Region Interior Minister Rebar Ahmed stated ongoing cooperation with Baghdad to apprehend wanted individuals and seize movable assets. He emphasized that the withdrawal of Coalition forces from Iraq does not mark the end of their relationship.
According to Iraqi News Agency, Ahmed spoke at the Middle East Research Institute (MERI) Forum, highlighting that the International Coalition’s presence in Iraq since 2014 was at the Iraqi government’s request and their withdrawal was also requested by Iraq. He stressed that despite the withdrawal, cooperation continues, particularly in addressing societal challenges like drug issues, which he noted have a more significant impact than terrorism.
Ahmed also praised the Iraqi constitution as one of the best in the Middle East and emphasized the importance of partnership, balance, and consensus, as highlighted by President Barzani. He pointed out that Iraq’s diverse components necessitate governance that considers all groups to achieve stability, internal security, and balanced relations with neighboring countries.
The minister highlighted the successful cooperation between the Peshmerga forces and federal security and military agencies, particularly during battles against ISIS. Institutional cooperation and coordination have been maintained, especially following the Prime Minister’s anti-corruption campaign, which facilitated direct coordination to apprehend wanted individuals and seize assets.
