Baghdad Operations Command Shuts Down Illegal Metal and Recycling Sites

Baghdad:The Baghdad Operations Command has taken action against environmental violations by dismantling six metal-smelting furnaces and shutting down seven workshops and two yards dedicated to recycling and collecting aluminum and plastic across the Karkh and Rusafa areas.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, these actions are part of an ongoing campaign to reduce environmental pollution caused by gas emissions and odors from production activities. The committee responsible for this initiative was established by Diwani Order (241285) and has been inspecting unlicensed factories, workshops, and metal-smelting furnaces.

Working alongside the National Security Service, the Karkh and Rusafa Environmental Police, the Baghdad Environment Directorate, and municipal departments, the committee, aided by the 5th and 2nd Federal Police Divisions, successfully enforced the shutdowns. These facilities were found to be violating environmental regulations and posed a risk to public health and safety.

Additionally, eleven individuals were arrested in the Sabaa Qusour and Taji areas for violating residency and nationality regulations as part of this enforcement operation.
