Iranian Foreign Minister Asserts Control Over Strait of Hormuz Access

Tehran:Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi declared that the Strait of Hormuz would only be accessible through channels facilitated by Iran and Oman.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Araghchi indicated during a televised interview that Iran refuses to succumb to either war or sanctions. He emphasized an agreement with Oman to establish specific routes for vessels passing through the strait, highlighting that access will be contingent on Iranian and Omani facilitation. The current situation will remain unchanged if the United States maintains its approach.

Araghchi criticized Washington for hindering diplomatic efforts and obstructing negotiations, placing the onus on the U.S. to fulfill prior commitments to reopen the strait and resume talks. He referenced past negotiations that resulted in conflict, casting doubt on the reliability of U.S. promises.

Addressing the threat of military conflict, Araghchi stated that the U.S. has not met its goals through warfare against Iran. He warned that while a new conflict involving the U.S. and Israel is possible, Iran stands ready to defend itself. He reaffirmed Iran’s readiness for both diplomacy and military defense, urging Washington to reconsider its policies and avoid military actions that do not benefit regional interests.
