Babylon:Lebanese actor Bassem Moughnieh highlighted the significance of Iraq’s rich civilizational and cultural heritage, describing participation in its cultural and artistic festivals as an exceptional experience. He expressed the need for Arab drama to better portray the realities and core issues of societies, while also expressing hope for collaborative artistic productions between Iraq and Lebanon.
According to Iraqi News Agency, Moughnieh shared that his visit to the historic city of Babylon inspires reflection on the rich human history of the land, which is abundant with ideas and successive civilizations.
He further noted that Arab drama currently fails to present a true and comprehensive picture of the Arab individual and the diversity of Arab societies. Moughnieh criticized the tendency of productions to rely on importation and imitation, which keeps them disconnected from the core issues and realities of the Arab street.
In discussing his selection criteria for artistic projects and characters, Moughnieh emphasized the importance of the written script as the fundamental pillar of successful artistic work. He stressed the necessity of integrating the script with elements of direction, set design, and production.
