Nagoya:Baghdad Iraqi Paralympic champion Jarrah Nassar has achieved a significant milestone by winning a gold medal in the shot-put event at the 2026 Asian Para Games held in Nagoya, Japan. This international event saw participants from 45 countries competing at a high level.
According to Iraqi News Agency, Nassar highlighted the challenges faced during the preparation phase, primarily due to insufficient financial resources. Despite these challenges, the efforts of his coach, Mazen Hussein Al-Taie, played a crucial role in overcoming obstacles and securing the gold medal victory.
Nassar explained that the Asian Para Games occur biennially and serve as a smaller-scale version of the global Paralympic Games, which are held every four years. He emphasized the importance of the preparation period, noting the difficulties in accessing training facilities and organizing overseas training camps.
The shot-put event, Nassar noted, requires significant muscle mass, explosive power, flexibility, and agility. Although his training was planned to take place abroad in cooler climates like Turkey or European nations, it ultimately occurred entirely within Iraq.
Looking to the future, Nassar expressed his ambition to compete in the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles, acknowledging the vital support of his fans, who he described as the fuel for his performance.
