Gaza City: The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor expressed its deep concern over the sharp Israeli escalation in targeting defenseless civilians in recent weeks in the Gaza Strip, including the obliteration of entire families and the killing of women and children at horrific rates, amid the international community’s continued inability to stop the genocide that has been ongoing for nearly 19 months.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor stated in a statement that in just seven days (from April 20 to 26), the Israeli occupation killed 345 Palestinians and injured 770 others, according to field data showing that at least 94% of the victims were civilians. Israel deliberately targeted simple, temporary shelters (tents) or semi-destroyed homes with heavy missiles or suicide drones, without justifiable military necessity. This reveals a systematic policy aimed at inflicting the greatest possible human losses among civilians.
The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights
Monitor noted that its field team has documented, over the past few weeks, repeated cases of entire families being obliterated, as well as the repeated targeting of specific families in a pattern that reflects a clear effort to completely annihilate them. It warned that civilian lives are real lives and human stories being deliberately and systematically destroyed outside any legal framework. It emphasized that protecting these lives and holding them accountable for their targeting represents a legal and moral responsibility that the international community cannot evade.
The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor denounced “the international silence, as if the killing of Palestinian civilians has become a reality accepted in the international system, Israel openly practices it without fear of legal or moral consequences,” it warned, noting that international tolerance in this regard does not merely represent a moral failure, but rather constitutes a grave breach of the legal obligations of states and the in
ternational community.
It called on all states to assume their legal responsibilities and take urgent action to stop the crime of genocide in the Gaza Strip through all their actions, to take all effective measures to protect Palestinian civilians there, to ensure Israel’s compliance with the rules of international law and the decisions of the International Court of Justice, and to ensure its accountability and prosecution for its crimes against the Palestinians.
The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor urged the international community to impose economic, diplomatic, and military sanctions on Israel due to its systematic and serious violation of international law, including a ban on arms exports to or purchases from it, a cessation of all forms of political, financial, and military support and cooperation, a travel ban, and the suspension of trade privileges and bilateral agreements that grant Israel economic advantages that enable it to continue committing crimes against the Palestinians.
