Wasit: Wasit Governor Mohammed Jamil Al-Mayahhi announced that the owner of the hypermarket, which was engulfed in flames leading to the tragic death of dozens, was operating in violation of regulations and without a license. Al-Mayahhi criticized the relevant departments for overlooking these infractions.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Mayahhi detailed in a press conference that several victims of the fire sought refuge in the "sanitary facilities," where they ultimately succumbed to suffocation. He also revealed that among the casualties was the son of the hypermarket's owner.
Al-Mayahhi assured the public that the investigation into the hypermarket fire will be concluded within a week, at which time the results will be announced.
