Al-Alaq and Harris Emphasize the Importance of Supporting Monetary and Economic Stability to Enhance Political Security in Iraq


Baghdad: The Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, Ali Al-Alaq, received the Charg© d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Iraq, Joshua Harris. The Central Bank’s media office stated in a press release that, “During the meeting, they discussed prospects for strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries and emphasized the importance of supporting monetary and economic stability, in line with the requirements of political and security stability in Iraq.”



According to National Iraqi News Agency, Harris affirmed the United States’ commitment to strengthening its relations with Iraq and supporting all efforts that would consolidate stability and protect the country from any factors that might destabilize it. He praised the significant reform initiatives undertaken by the Central Bank of Iraq and the distinguished and productive relationship it maintains with the US Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve.



For his part, Al-Alaq expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the continued support provided by the United States, represented by the Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve, particularly during the quarterly meetings. The Central Bank Governor reviewed the banking reform plan and the significant progress made in stabilizing foreign exchange transactions and regulating dollar sales according to best practices and international standards.



At the conclusion of the meeting, Harris, according to the statement, expressed his full readiness to continue supporting the efforts of the Central Bank of Iraq, enabling it to achieve its goals in strengthening financial and monetary stability.
