Al-Araji Advocates for Women’s Empowerment in Iraq’s Digital Transformation

Baghdad: Iraq's National Security Adviser, Qasim al-Araji, has highlighted the critical importance of empowering women within the digital transformation sphere as a key driver for the nation's strength and resilience. Speaking at the 'Role of Women in Digital Transformation' conference, al-Araji underscored the need for women's inclusion in technology and cybersecurity as pivotal investments in Iraq's future.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Araji detailed the Iraqi government's commitment to elevating women's roles across various sectors, including political, cultural, and economic fields. The government has launched a national strategy through the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers aimed at advancing women's status. Despite women holding significant positions such as members of parliament, ministers, ambassadors, and judges, al-Araji pointed out that their presence in essential sectors like technology, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity remains limited.

Al-Araji further emphasized that digital transformation is not merely an optional path but a necessary development dictated by rapid technological advancements and global changes. He noted that achieving genuine digital transformation involves more than the adoption of modern technologies; it requires the restructuring of institutional mechanisms and the development of competent cadres capable of innovation and effective decision-making.

He also highlighted that women have consistently demonstrated their ability to be active and influential partners in shaping the digital future, emphasizing that digital empowerment is crucial for expanding the pool of qualified human resources and enhancing institutional competitiveness. Al-Araji argued that fostering a diverse and effective work environment is essential for true digital transformation.

Moreover, al-Araji called for the establishment of advanced digital education and training environments, increased support for women's participation in artificial intelligence, and the removal of barriers that hinder equal access to digital opportunities. He concluded by stating that the active participation of all societal segments is necessary for successful digital transformation, with women playing a strategic role in the nation's strength and sustainability.
