Baghdad: National Security Advisor Qasim Al-Araji discussed continued coordination and joint cooperation with the head of the European Union Advisory Mission in Iraq, Anders Wiberg, to benefit from the advisory expertise provided by the mission.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement by the advisory office indicated that Al-Araji received Wiberg on the occasion of the end of his duties as head of the mission, after completing three years in charge of the advisory mission in Iraq. During the meeting, Al-Araji emphasized the importance of maintaining security stability in Iraq and the region, acknowledging the mission’s contributions to the security sector reform program and the support of Iraqi security forces.

Wiberg expressed appreciation for Iraq’s efforts to maintain stability and internal security and praised the Iraqi government’s initiative in launching a new national security strategy entitled “Iraq First.” The meeting also addressed the latest regional developments, including the events in the Gaza Strip and the systematic killing and starvation faced by Palestinians.

Al-Araji highlighted the urgency of ending the suffering of the people in the Gaza Strip and called for immediate international action to address their humanitarian plight.
